It seems that the Swedish Embassy does not understand what freedom of expression means. A lie is not freedom of expression - this is how the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Shalva Papuashvili responded to the question regarding the letter sent to "Imedi" by the Swedish Embassy in Georgia.
According to him, it is anti-European behavior when you fund an organization in another country and think that this organization spreads disinformation.
As Papuashvili said, disinformation is one of the tools for destabilizing countries in the 21st century.
"We see that "Transparency International-Georgia" is purposefully spreading disinformation against the constitutional order, that it seems that the decision of the president is needed for the parliamentary session, as if the opposition can block the meeting of the parliament. I called on them to clarify and they are silent. They deliberately spread misinformation against the constitutional order to confuse the public.
When a donor sees this and in response to a question says that it is freedom of speech - this is a lie, because disinformation is not protected by freedom of speech and expression, so it seems that the Swedish Embassy does not understand what freedom of expression means. A lie is not freedom of expression.
When they see organizations using Swedish citizens' money to undermine democracy in another country, it is their responsibility to react. However, this is not surprising in light of the fact that the chairman of the European Affairs Committee of the Swedish Parliament, in violation of international law, held rallies in front of the parliament and called people to "Maidan". Therefore, it is not surprising that the embassy lacks adequate answers regarding the problems caused by the money that is spent in Georgia from the Swedish budget. They cannot escape responsibility with such a general proposal, because when your country's money in another country harms the interests of another society, this is anti-European behavior," Papuashvili said.
