Salome Zurabishvili: the plan is new elections, and until then the continuation of the current political situation until October 26

The President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, offers her own vision to the political parties, government and society in order to get out of the current political crisis.

As Salome Zurabishvili stated at the briefing held in the Orbeliani Palace, it is necessary to hold new elections, and before the new elections to maintain the current political situation until October 26.

"We must find a way out of this seemingly inevitable, deep and dangerous crisis together. I have to offer to society, political forces, our partners, and I think the existing government should hear this as the only stable and peaceful solution. What is the plan, what do I propose?! First - obviously, new elections. The elections did not take place and it is necessary to repeat these elections as soon as possible, but this period itself depends on the resolution of the following issues, without which there is no point in holding new elections. One is an international investigation. Not for the international partners to tell us what everyone knows very well, that the elections did not take place and were rigged. This is necessary in order to find out and prove the systemic flaws that existed during these elections and that need to be corrected if we want to get a new, fair, free and non-rigged election. With international support, we should be able to staff a new election administration, change the election code in the direction and messages that were the requirements of the OSCE/ODIHR at the time. In addition, by holding procedures for opening sites abroad. Also, the creation of a special court for election disputes. It is not excluded in all new instances, and it is desirable that our foreign partners are fully involved. As long as the elections were not held, nothing new can be held, neither the parliament, nor the government, nor the presidential elections. We continue with the existing parliament, government and even the president in order to make this transition period until the new elections as stable as possible, so we do not arrest anyone, we do not fire anyone. No one has a moment to chase. There is no stable country where the will of its population, the society, is not reflected in the elections and the political system that follows the elections. The support of international partners on this plan is essential and I am already working on it. I am sure that this is the most attractive for them, as it is the only way that is stable and peaceful for us to come out of this crisis without fluctuations", said Salome Zurabishvili.
