The President applied to the Constitutional Court regarding election violations

President Salome Zurabishvili filed a lawsuit in the Constitutional Court regarding election violations. The defender of the president's interests in the court, Eka Beselia, told journalists about this.

According to Beselia, it is important to file a lawsuit, despite the fact that they do not trust the court.

According to her own explanation, the President applied to the mentioned legal way in order to protect the constitutional rights of the citizens.

"This lawsuit is very important, despite the fact that, unfortunately, there is no trust in the Constitutional Court. The independence of this court has been put under a big blow by the court itself with its recent decisions. The president uses this legal path because all legal space, all legal mechanisms must be used in order to protect the constitutional rights of citizens. This lawsuit is about the violation of two main constitutional rights: the first is a violation of universality, which was manifested in the fact that the opportunity to enjoy the constitutional right for our citizens outside the country was not only limited, but also prohibited. The second most important principle is to protect the privacy of the voice. There is ample evidence that the secrecy of the vote was violated, which is a violation of the constitutional standard. Another issue - we are disputing the constitutionality of the norms that force the members of the parliament to go through the procedure of recognition of their authority and [then terminate their authority, not at the time] when they announced that they will not be in the parliament", Beselia notes.

For information, yesterday, the President of Georgia announced at a briefing held in the Orbelian palace that he would file a constitutional lawsuit on November 19 regarding election violations.

According to the President, the lawsuit refers to the violation of two constitutional principles in elections, which are called secrecy and universality.

According to Zurabishvili, she has no hope of the court, however, she still thinks that she should try all the ways.
