We are very grateful for the development of the resolution on Georgia in the European Parliament, and I would like to ask you to support the amendment that calls on President Zurabishvili to pardon President Saakashvili, who has been a political prisoner for the fourth year already, Tina Bokuchava, the chairperson of "Unity - National Movement", said during her speech in the European Parliament.
According to Tina Bokuchava, it is extremely important that the resolution mentions the non-recognition of the election results and calls for holding new elections under independent election administration.
"First of all, I congratulate Andrius Kubilius, who is a long-time friend of Georgia. As you know, on October 26, the most important elections were held in Georgia, which some of you observed, and which, according to the President of Georgia, was a special operation against the Georgian people carried out within the framework of Russia's hybrid war. The scale of the fraud was massive and included a violation of the secrecy of the vote throughout the country, which completely undermined the free will of the Georgian people.
In Russia, wealthy oligarch Bidzina Ivanishvili has presented a new presidential candidate, who will be chosen by an electoral college made up of Ivanishvili loyalists, and who, along with his illiteracy, is known for his abusive and anti-European rhetoric.
We are very grateful for the development of the resolution on Georgia in the European Parliament, which will be voted on tomorrow, and, of course, we hope for your support.
It is extremely important that the resolution mentions the non-recognition of the election results and calls for new elections under independent election administration.
I would also like to ask you to support the amendment that calls on President Zurabishvili to pardon President Saakashvili, who has been a political prisoner for four years.
While the state is being hijacked by the Russian regime, we on the right side of history should not get stuck in our past differences, but should unite in our common goal to save Georgia's European course.
Dear friends, my other request would be that you work with the new commission to ensure the implementation of the political decisions made by this Parliament, including individual sanctions against the regime and an international investigation into election violations. Political trade with the Russian oligarch or return to normal relations will not only damage the idea and values of Europe, but will further encourage the Kremlin and push Georgia towards the abyss of inevitable authoritarianism.
Therefore, we hope for your bold political steps and leadership, and also please continue the brave fight for our common values and European future", said Tina Bokuchava in her speech.
