There is no indication of an escalation before the revolution, the demonstrators are very peaceful, they are demanding a return to the European path and new elections. Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili stated this in an interview with Deutsche Welle.
When asked by a journalist whether she thinks the current situation could escalate to a revolution, Zurabishvili replied that “there is no indication of this.”
“There is no indication of this, because the demonstrators who have taken to the streets are very peaceful. They are demanding two things: they are demanding a return to the European path and new elections. There are no other calls of any kind, and everything was very peaceful until the violent crackdown on the protest began. You have probably seen the photos of this.
Despite this, the protest also continues in legal forms - lawyers are taking on the cases of those demonstrators who were beaten.
So, we are a very law-abiding country, we must remain law-abiding and remain within the constitutional framework. Those who are now outside the constitutional framework in many ways are the de facto leaders who emerged after these rigged elections. They do not respect the constitution, they do not respect the will of the people, and we must return to that and return the country to its legal European path," Zurabishvili said.
