Today's statements of the Prime Minister, then the statements of the Speaker of the Parliament, are only an indication that the ruling party is quite confused today, - said the President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili at the briefing.
As Salome Zurabishvili said, "Georgian Dream" did not expect such a reaction from the public as "they are confused".
"They didn't expect this kind of public reaction, not only street protests, which they probably expected, but they no longer know how to manage except violence. This violence will never end and has its limit. Perhaps they are more confused by what is happening in civil society, in the business sector and even in the church, when new voices are heard that also disagree with this illegitimate decision that takes us away from the European Union. Our church did not go there of its own free will, and this is the future that Georgia is refusing today on the street, as well as in all other institutions," said Salome Zurabishvili.
According to the President, despite the explanations of the government representatives, the public is well aware that the Prime Minister's decision not to put negotiations with the European Union on the agenda until 2028 is a change in the country's orientation.
"The statements that were made today, it turns out that we did not understand and they do not stop [European integration], but they miss something, which is incomprehensible. Completely vague statements do not change this, because the public understood very well that this was a change in our orientation and actually turning our backs on the EU and, on the contrary, turning towards Russia. Our partners understood the same very well. These pretend clarifications do not serve anything", said Salome Zurabishvili.
