As the public defender states, regarding the mentioned facts, they have already applied to the Special Investigation Service.
"My representatives visited Nika Gvaramia, Gela Khasaia and Zurab Datunashvili in the first hours of their detention. Also, 7 persons arrested under criminal law. According to Nika Gvaramia, he was arrested illegally. During the arrest, he was physically abused and verbally abused by the police. In connection with the mentioned fact, the Office of the Public Defender applied to the Special Investigation Service. In addition, the representative of the Public Defender visited the detained Gela Khasaia, who demanded to call an ambulance, on which the police representatives were immediately contacted and the relevant medical crew was called. I have explained many times, and I will repeat it again, the methods used by law enforcement officers during the arrest of citizens are disturbing. An alarming number of detainees report beatings and ill-treatment. "Beyond their instructions, the mentioned methods are clearly visible in the footage distributed by the media," said the Public Defender.
In addition, Levan Ioseliani noted that the Public Defender's office visited Aleko Elisashvili, who was arrested yesterday, who has injuries on his face and back.
"Also, I would like to single out the disproportionate force used by the police against Aleko Elisashvili, who was arrested yesterday. We visited it yesterday. He has injuries on his face in the form of bruises and scratches. In addition, it indicates the injury received in the back area as a result of the beating. We have already informed the Special Investigation Service about the inappropriate treatment of Aleko Elisashvili by the police. The investigation will be monitored by the public defender's office," said Ioseliani.
