Irakli Kobakhidze: Talking about sanctions is a bit frivolous, it's been a long time since all this has acquired a frivolous look

Talking about sanctions is a bit frivolous, all this has acquired a frivolous look for a long time, - said the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, thus responding to the report of the European Commission, according to which, "taking into account the developments in Georgia, about the possible implementation of the mechanism of suspending the visa-free travel for certain categories of persons is ongoing."

In his own assessment, "when specific people, politicians and bureaucrats equate LGBT propaganda and European integration, it is extremely disturbing."

"Speaking about sanctions is a bit frivolous, all this has acquired a frivolous look for a long time.

As for the anti-LGBT law, when specific people, politicians and bureaucrats equate each other with LGBT propaganda and European integration, this is of course extremely disturbing. I would like to remind you what this law provides. This law provides that same-sex partnerships cannot be legalized, that is, it cannot be given the appearance of a law. All this takes into account that it is not possible to change gender through surgery in Georgia. No one can force you to always use neutral terminology, for example, regarding gender. The law cannot define the so-called genders other than two. That is, it is the simplest law, the simplest topics are discussed in this law.

20 years ago, if someone started talking seriously about such topics, they would probably be surprised. However, today we are dealing with a different reality. Today, we are told that besides women and men, many other genders must be written in the law. This is simply unheard of, and moreover, some people tell us that it and European integration are one and the same. This is not the right approach, of course, such approaches seriously damage the reputation of European structures in the Georgian society", said Kobakhidze.
