The main charge fueling the current protest is the defeat experienced in the elections, when a part of the voters supported the opposition parties, but "Georgian Dream" won a convincing victory, said the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.
According to him, under the "Georgian Dream" government, Georgia "has gone the furthest" on the road to European integration.
"Today we renewed the parliamentary activities, a session of the bureau will be held, we will approve the agenda, at the end of this week we will close the autumn session, and on Saturday, December 14, the election of the president of Georgia will take place.
Over the past two weeks, we have seen protests centered here around the Parliament building, which unfortunately turned violent on a daily basis. Naturally, we also saw peaceful demonstrators standing here to express their protest or solidarity, but we also saw extremely aggressive groups that gave the whole action a violent character. Once again, I would like to thank the police forces, who, at the risk of their own health, made the greatest effort to stop the violence and restore law and order.
Clashes initiated and provoked by violent groups have many victims. I want to wish each of them good health. Most importantly, I want to call once again, as in the previous days, to stop the violence, to stop the aggression and to return the political process to the legal bed. The process must return to the public space, within the walls of parliament, in television studios and even on the street, but in an appropriate manner that does not cause chaos. Society is tired and we can see it. We are the government elected by the majority, but we hear everyone's voice.
Today, the government has the most important obligation to ensure order and not to allow disorder and any unruly process. There can be no compromise in this direction. Naturally, we are not going to settle accounts with political activists obsessed with coup or other revolutionary ideas.
My appeal refers to that part of the society that spontaneously expresses protest, despite the fact that the demonstration does not have a podium, we do not understand the demands. That is why I think that the main charge fueling the current protest is the defeat experienced in the elections, when a part of the voters supported the opposition parties, but "Georgian Dream" was able to convince the majority of the voters to express their trust in it and won a convincing victory. It is this frustration, the charge that feeds the current process. We understand this, but it is time for the process to return to the bed dictated by the formal content of public policy. Elections are the only way to determine the political outcome and everyone should recognize that. If someone has a different position, it is better to state it openly and receive an appropriate answer", said Shalva Papuashvili.
