Ombudsman: we met with 327 people arrested at the rally, of which 225 people indicate improper treatment, and 157 people have physical injuries - it is unacceptable, these cases should not be investigated

We met 327 people arrested at the rally, of which 225 people indicate improper treatment, and 157 people have physical injuries. I personally saw these people and had a personal conversation. Once again, I call on the Special Investigation Service to investigate all these cases very effectively and in a timely manner and to bring the people who committed this crime to justice, - Public Defender Levan Ioseliani said.

According to him, non-investigation of these cases is unacceptable.

"It can not be allowed that these cases go uninvestigated, it will further encourage the law breakers and we will have an even worse picture later on when the stock busts take place

I will once again respond to the role of journalists in all of this, the role of journalists is infinitely large. Yesterday was the International Day of Human Rights Defenders and journalists are also human rights defenders, therefore the state should do everything to ensure that their activities are safe. They should be able to cover the events as they see fit, without any pressure, and of course, any type of influence on them is not allowed, especially what we have seen in recent days against several journalists, when citizens attacked and assaulted them in brutal ways. All these cases should be investigated, the people, the individuals who committed them, should answer for all these cases," said Ioseliani.

He also spoke about the emergence of informal groups.

"Once again, I will draw attention to the appearance of these informal groups, which caused a very fair indignation of the public, there was no one left who did not condemn this event, because this is a very dangerous event, when people dressed in masks attack civilians, attack journalists. This case should probably be investigated first and the identity of these people should be established and they should be brought before the law and justice. This is the urgent thing that the government should do.

I would like to thank the journalists once again for the work they are doing under very difficult conditions. Once again, I call on everyone, first of all the government, but at the same time, the participants of the action should not allow any kind of interference with the activities of journalists, they should have the opportunity to cover the events as they consider it necessary, in a safe environment" - said Ioseliani.
