Nino Lomjaria: there is systematic torture, inhumane and degrading treatment - each fact is documented by us and we provide the information to the international community

There is systematic torture, inhumane and degrading treatment of citizens. Hundreds of people, including journalists, were subjected to torture and inhumane treatment. We want to tell the public that every such fact of torture, beating of citizens, detention by force and physical punishment of journalists is documented by us. We provide the information about each fact to the international community, - said Nino Lomjaria, the founder of the civil platform "European Orbit of Georgia".

According to her, the Special Investigation Service does not respond to any facts, despite the fact that in some cases the guilty persons have been identified.

"Specific evidence, description of facts, as well as relevant video and photo materials have been presented. In the same way, we are collecting information regarding physical retribution against journalists and the violent suppression of their activities, and these data will be transferred to all international organizations, and we will also provide information regarding ongoing legal repression. What has been happening lately, when citizens are taken away from their families without any reason, without any court order, illegal searches and arrests, kidnapping of citizens and we don't even know their whereabouts for hours.

There are large-scale repressions in the country and no one has been brought to justice. I would like to say that torture is absolutely forbidden, and both the perpetrator and the person overseeing it, who were tasked with preventing torture, must answer for it. It should also be noted that failure to investigate torture is also considered a crime of torture.

The Special Investigation Service does not respond to any facts and no one has been charged while some individuals have been identified. It is the responsibility of the court when tortured citizens sit in court sessions and the judges do not care where people were tortured and the judges declare that it is not their business and do not send the case to the investigative agencies, this agency is also responsible.

With the instructions of the relevant persons, we are sending the names of the heads and representatives of the respective agencies to the international human rights protection institutions and the diplomatic corps so that everyone knows who is responsible for the political repression, torture and inhumane treatment of the citizens in Georgia", said Nino Lomjaria.
