Rihards Kols to Shalva Papuashvili: real treason comes from your ranks - don't let it bother you - Europe's patience is not limitless

Don't get in the way - your room for maneuver is shrinking, both politically and diplomatically, Europe's patience is not infinite. This is how MEP Rihards Kols responds to Shalva Papuashvili on his X page, who criticized the statements of Zhigimantas Pavillionis and Marko Michelson.

According to the European parliamentarian, Shalva Papuashvili laughs at Marko Michelson and Zhigimantas Pavillionis, while the "real betrayal" comes from the ranks of "Georgian Dream".

"You speak of democracy, yet defend the indefensible—a government that drags its feet toward authoritarianism, ignores its people’s will, and panders to foreign powers seeking to undermine Georgia’s Euro-Atlantic future. You slander Marco Michelson and Žygimantas Pavilionis, yet the true betrayal comes from within your ranks.

The European Parliament has rightly called for sanctions against those who hinder Georgia's democratic aspirations, including you. Make no mistake—your space to maneuver is shrinking, both politically and diplomatically. Europe's patience is not infinite, nor is our tolerance for hypocrisy wrapped in pseudo-democratic rhetoric.

The attempts to paint Baltic leaders, who have consistently championed democracy and Georgia’s sovereignty, as instigators of 'regime change' are laughable. What my fellow Baltic brothers—and many in Europe—oppose is not elections but your government’s blatant deviation from democratic norms, its anti-Ukrainian messaging, and its flirtation with Russia’s influence.

Do not confuse accountability with foreign interference. Your government is not under pressure because "it serves its people" but because it undermines their future. If elections are the cornerstone of democracy, then let them be free, fair, and untainted by propaganda. If you truly value democracy, prove it—with actions, not platitudes.

Until then, your attempts to silence criticism will only amplify it. Europe stands with the Georgian people, not with those who seek to rob them of their democratic destiny," Kols writes.

To remind you, the Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, said that Estonian and Lithuanian politicians, Michelson and Pavillionis "tried to blackmail" the EU Ambassador to Georgia, Paweł Herczyński, due to his official meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maka Bochorishvili.

"They tell us that their political agenda is important, not the people's choice, and if the will of the population does not coincide with their wishes, then it is necessary to reverse the election results," Papuashvili said.
