The honorary chairman of the "Georgian Dream" party, Bidzina Ivanishvili, is disseminating additional information regarding the telephone conversation held between French President Emmanuel Macron.
According to the party, during the conversation, the French president did raise the issue of the release of the detainees, however, the honorary chairman of the party explained that "Georgia is a state governed by the rule of law, and all criminals are held accountable for the crimes committed in accordance with the requirements of the law and the high standard of evidence."
In addition, according to "Georgian Dream", Ivanishvili also noted that the police acted with a higher standard than the European standard against the large-scale violence of the protestors.
"The President of France, speaking, really raised the issue of the release of detainees. The honorable chairman of the party explained to the president on this issue that the majority of those arrested are under administrative detention and in the near future, all of them will be released. As for the persons arrested on criminal charges, Macron explained that Georgia is a state governed by the rule of law and all criminals are held accountable for their crimes in accordance with the requirements of the law and a high standard of evidence. Bidzina Ivanishvili also explained to the French president that the police acted against the large-scale violence of the protestors with a higher standard than the European one.
