Mamuka Mdinaradze: Mikheil Kavelashvili is an established professional politician and a person whom, at one time, all of Georgia supported. That is not the case today, but a large majority still supports him

Mikheil Kavelashvili is already an established professional politician and a person whom, at one time, all of Georgia supported. That is not the case today, but a large majority still supports him," stated the leader of the parliamentary majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze.

According to him, today, the government elected by the Georgian people, with the appropriate legitimacy, is choosing the President of Georgia.

"Since the amendment was made to the Constitution of Georgia, stipulating that the President of Georgia would be elected by a college, this is the first instance. Among other things, the President of Georgia will acquire powers as stipulated by the Constitution and will be elected indirectly. As is known, the college includes members of the Parliament of Georgia, representatives of local self-government, and members of the Supreme Councils of the governments of Adjara and Abkhazia. If a second round is needed, it will also be held today. Otherwise, the President will be elected in the first round. You can see that our opponents did not show up.

When nominating Mikheil Kavelashvili, the main criterion that could possibly apply was loyalty to the homeland, not to any particular team, and patriotism. If Mikheil Kavelashvili has any defining quality, it is primarily this one that should be discussed. Additionally, he is already an established professional politician and a person whom, at one time, all of Georgia supported. That is not the case today, but a large majority still supports him because the government elected by the Georgian people, with the appropriate legitimacy, is choosing the President of Georgia," Mdinaradze stated.
