The Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on Education, Science, and Youth Affairs and MP of the Georgian Dream party, Givi Mikanadze, responded to the statement by Estonia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, regarding sanctions imposed on 14 Georgian officials, including Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
Givi Mikanadze called the decision disgraceful, highlighting that it disregards the support expressed by Georgian Dream voters solely because the current government is not acceptable to foreign actors.
“This is a disgraceful decision and, at the same time, another blatant interference in our country’s internal affairs. It is a disregard for the will of the people and the 1,120,000 voters who supported Georgian Dream. This move stems solely from their dissatisfaction with the government that the Georgian people have elected for the ninth consecutive time. Estonia’s step once again demonstrates that their friendship is neither reflected in words nor actions and that they are focused on confrontation and, to some extent, radicalizing the situation locally,” stated Givi Mikanadze.
For context, Estonia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Margus Tsahkna, announced sanctions against 14 Georgian officials, including Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze.
“The violence perpetrated by the authorities against demonstrators, journalists, and opposition leaders is criminal and violates human rights. I urge all EU countries to respond and take action,” wrote Tsahkna.
