"A government that came to power through the murder of Barbare Raphaliani will not leave by playing football," stated Georgia's third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, during a court session where he appeared remotely from the "Vivamedi" clinic.
Saakashvili described the current situation in Georgia as a "truly nationwide revolution" and warned against underestimating the ruling power, which he characterized as ruthless.
"Yesterday, a very important event occurred. The European Union imposed sanctions and revoked visa-free travel for diplomatic passport holders. This is a significant step forward. It is not everything we want, but it is a step in the right direction. In 2011, thanks to my efforts, this visa-free travel was introduced as a prelude to the broader visa liberalization and association with the EU. Now it has been taken away — not from us, but from them! Sanctions will continue, and not only sanctions. I predict that if the 'titushkas' [violent provocateurs], violence, and looting persist, as happened in Kenya after their rigged elections, the International Criminal Court will take notice of this government. I am aware that Georgian legal experts have already initiated actions in this direction.
Furthermore, it was announced that individuals can now be appointed to state positions without knowledge of the Georgian language or Georgian citizenship. This is exactly what the Russians did in Tskhinvali after 2004. They want to replace Georgians with Russians because Georgians cannot and will not follow certain orders. You see the breakdown happening in the police force. Why else do they need 'titushkas'?
We are now at a very critical juncture. What is happening in Georgia today is truly a nationwide revolution. During the “National Movement”, we revived the spirit of the national independence movement, but the scale of today's protests surpasses anything we saw then. In 2012, Russians finally realized they were losing democracy for good. Protests erupted in Moscow and St. Petersburg against the regime, but they were eventually crushed, and Russia became what it is today.
Friends, we must understand that we are dealing with a ruthless force. These people did not change yesterday or the day before. A government that came to power through the murder of Barbare Raphaliani will not leave by playing football. I am happy to see such joyful expressions — I love those children playing football in front of Parliament — but on the other side, they are playing with our heads, and they killed Barbare Raphaliani," concluded Saakashvili.
