Elene Khoshtaria, one of the leaders of the "Coalition for Change," stated that she would not attend a meeting with the Council of Europe delegation visiting Georgia.
According to her, the visit is wrong without visiting political prisoners.
Khoshtaria emphasized that the Council of Europe’s visit is not connected to recognizing the legitimacy of the government, and that the ruling party, "Georgian Dream," is using it for propaganda.
"I criticized the format of the Council of Europe’s visit yesterday. I would like to clarify:
The Council of Europe is not a country, it is an organization, and it is not related to any recognition. We are members there. 'Georgian Dream' uses it in their propaganda, and it's unfortunate that they are given the opportunity.
Their main mandate is human rights. Not visiting political prisoners, not entering the prisons at this point, is, in my view, their second big mistake.
With all due respect, I will not attend the meeting for these reasons.
Sometimes organizations make mistakes, but there is no shame in talking about this; what matters is the firmness and principle of our position. This visit is wrong without visiting the political prisoners!" wrote Khoshtaria.
