Yesterday, it was clear where the Georgian people stand - by Salome Zurabishvili's side, while "Georgian Dream" was closed off, carrying out the inauguration of their president. This is what the head of "Fair Elections," Nino Dolidze, said at a protest on Rustaveli Avenue.
According to Dolidze, the fight for a European and democratic future did not have decisive importance today because the Georgian people are standing in protest in the streets for as long as necessary.
"I had no specific or special expectations for today because, as the majority of the Georgian people, I realized that specific dates don’t matter; what matters is winning the fight. Whatever days, weeks, and time it takes for us to be here fighting for our country’s European and democratic future, we will do it.
The only thing that was clear and very noticeable today was where the Georgian people stood - they stood by Salome Zurabishvili's side, while 'Georgian Dream,' closed off, was carrying out the inauguration of their president, only communicating with each other. The main thing today showed where the Georgian people stand and who they see as the legitimate institution, and that is Salome Zurabishvili.
For me, it didn’t matter whether Salome Zurabishvili stayed or not [in the Orbelians' Palace], because legitimacy belongs to her as a person. I respect her decision, whatever it may be. For me, today’s moment didn’t have decisive importance in this fight, because we are standing here, and we will stand as long as needed. It is very important to have international partners’ messages, statements, and actions in this process. We see that neither the parliament nor Kavlashvili has recognition from democratic countries in the international arena, and international partners continue to communicate with Salome Zurabishvili. We also see sanctions and other pressure on ‘Georgian Dream.’ This means that international partners, the democratic world, stands by the Georgian people, they appreciate and see the relentless struggle of the Georgian people – the peaceful fight for our country’s future," Dolidze said.
