We welcome the decision by the Biden Administration to place sanctions on Georgian Dream Party Chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili for undermining the Euro-Atlantic future of Georgia, reads s statement issued by Congressman Gerry Connolly, the Ranking Member of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform and the former President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and Congressman Mike Turner, the Chairman of the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence and the Head of the US Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

“We welcome the decision by the Biden Administration to place sanctions on Georgian Dream Party Chairman Bidzina Ivanishvili for undermining the Euro-Atlantic future of Georgia. Under Ivanishvili’s direction, Georgian Dream has brought Georgia closer to the Russian model of one-party authoritarianism, passing a foreign agents law, unleashing violence against protestors and suspending negotiations to join the European Union. The United States must continue to hold those suppressing the democratic aspirations of the Georgian people accountable, including through additional sanctions,” reads the statement.
