Western states are sanctioning the "rats" fleeing a sinking ship they themselves have been energetically sinking for years. This is how Grigol Gegelia, Secretary of Foreign Relations for the "Strong Georgia" coalition, described the Georgian Dream Political Council's statement that "no one and nothing can intimidate the Georgian people with sanctions."
As Gegelia stated on PalitraNews' program "Newsroom", "The Georgian people have nothing to fear, but Ivanishvili and his criminal formations have everything to fear."
"Ivanishvili has absolutely nothing in common with the Georgian people. He should stop speaking on behalf of the Georgian people. What do the Georgian people and Ivanishvili share in common? Nothing. It's not the Georgian people who fear sanctions—it's Ivanishvili himself. Why should the Georgian people fear sanctions? Have sanctions been imposed on the Georgian people? No. Western states are sanctioning the 'rats' fleeing the ship they’ve been sinking for years. The Georgian people have nothing to fear. On the contrary, they should know that the entire world stands by them. The ones who should be afraid are the wrongdoers betraying the Georgian people, doing everything to prevent their victory on the international stage. They are actively undermining opportunities for greater prosperity, security, and development," Gegelia said.
He expressed confidence that new elections will be held in Georgia.
"A country cannot continue to function normally and stably with an illegitimate, incapacitated parliament. We don't have a functioning government with any moral or political mandate within the country or abroad. Ivanishvili only cares about his physical and personal well-being, which everyone in this country knows very well—he admitted it himself before the elections. As he said, whenever he starts thinking about the people's well-being, he remembers his millions and can no longer continue thinking about others' welfare. That is the kind of dire predicament Ivanishvili is in," Gegelia stated.
In his view, when a government includes individuals on the "Magnitsky List" who are banned from entering leading EU states, such a government cannot physically continue to exist, nor can the state function properly.
"When the Minister of Internal Affairs—one of the most critical positions in any state, responsible for the daily safety of the state and its citizens—is listed alongside terrorists and criminals on the 'Magnitsky List,' how can we even envision maintaining security? This inherently means no one will collaborate with such a government," Gegelia stated.
Regarding the "Non-Recognition Act of the Georgian Nightmare Government," Gegelia noted that bipartisan support for initiating such an act is catastrophic for the Georgian Dream administration.
"Imagine claiming to be a legitimate government while the first democratic state in the world considers, with bipartisan support from both major parties, not recognizing you—not just as a prime minister or parliamentary majority, but in any form whatsoever. This is about none of Ivanishvili's governments—nor any restructured cabinet of ministers orbiting Ivanishvili—ever being recognized. The Georgian Dream regime has hijacked the state and elections," Gegelia said.
