Mamuka Mdinaradze: "In the first week of the spring session, a temporary investigative commission will be established to study the activities of the regime that operated between 2003 and 2012, and the findings will be presented to the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia and other relevant bodies, in accordance with Georgian legislation, to take further measures and ensure the punishment of the wrongdoers," said the leader of the parliamentary majority, Mamuka Mdinaradze.
According to him, the investigation into the 2008 war will not target military commanders and soldiers.
"There is a radical opposition in Georgia, which, during its time in power from 2003 to 2012, committed numerous crimes against the Georgian state and people. Since 2012, this political force has taken on the role of a destructive element in Georgian politics, openly opposing Georgia's national interests and creating a major obstacle to the establishment of a healthy political system in Georgia. Given the nature of this political force, it is clear that, should it return to power, it will undoubtedly commit the same crimes with renewed vigor, supported by the same forces that once referred to the 2003-2012 authoritarian, bloody regime as a beacon of democracy. A significant portion of society, due to age, was not present for the crimes committed by the 'National Movement's' bloody regime, and for many, these crimes are at least emotionally forgotten. Society must always remember the crimes committed by the authoritarian regime to prevent their repetition in the future. It was precisely with this approach—through the Nuremberg trials and constant reminders of the regime's crimes—that post-World War II Germany overcame National Socialism in the public consciousness. This is an experience that Georgia should adopt and implement in practice.
The elected President of the United States, Donald Trump, announced a fight against the 'Deep State.' In Georgia, a radical opposition operates that is deeply embedded in our political system and is governed by the 'Deep State.' This group, formed by the 'Deep State,' serves its master's whims with blind obedience, as the 'Deep State' management rules dictate. Similarly, it is necessary to free Georgia from the radical opposition just as the United States seeks to free itself from the 'Deep State.'
The main systemic crimes committed by the 2003-2012 regime are widely known. These include:
To investigate these systemic crimes and evaluate the regime, a temporary investigative commission will be created in the first week of the spring session. This commission will operate for six months and prepare findings, which the Parliament of Georgia will review and approve by the first session week in September. The findings will include recommendations for political and legal measures regarding the wrongdoers, as provided by the Constitution of Georgia. The findings approved by the Parliament of Georgia will be handed over to the Prosecutor's Office of Georgia and other relevant authorities for further action and to ensure the punishment of the wrongdoers, in line with Georgian legislation.
To avoid speculation, we emphasize from the outset that the investigation into the 2008 war will not target military commanders and soldiers.
The temporary investigative commission will summon and question officials from the regime, as well as any other individuals who may be responsible for crimes committed by the regime or who may possess valuable information about these crimes.
In conclusion, we again stress that the evaluation of the 2003-2012 regime is crucial for preventing the dangers facing the country and establishing a healthy political system in Georgia. Therefore, the work of the temporary investigative commission is of utmost importance for ensuring the uninterrupted development of our country," Mdinaradze stated.
