The Public Defender of Georgia, Levan Ioseliani, calls on investigative authorities to identify those responsible for the attacks on Giorgi Gakharia and journalist Zviad Qoridze and to conduct all investigative actions promptly and thoroughly.

As stated in a press release from the Ombudsman's Office, immediate response to these incidents is crucial to prevent encouragement of attacks on politicians and journalists.

"The Public Defender of Georgia condemns the attacks on Giorgi Gakharia and journalist Zviad Qoridze and urges investigative authorities to identify the responsible individuals and carry out all investigative and procedural actions promptly and comprehensively. This includes obtaining video recordings, questioning witnesses, and other necessary measures.

The Public Defender considers it essential to respond immediately to these incidents to ensure that attacks on politicians and journalists are not incentivized," the statement reads.

For context, Giorgi Gakharia, the leader of "Gakharia - For Georgia," was attacked in Batumi. The assault on the opposition politician occurred last night at the Sheraton Hotel. Gakharia was hospitalized but later discharged. According to doctors, he sustained a broken nasal bone and a concussion.

In addition to the attack on Giorgi Gakharia, a confrontation occurred at the same hotel involving Zviad Qoridze, a representative of the non-governmental sector. Qoridze reported that he was confronted by Dimitri Samkharadze, a representative of the "Georgian Dream" party, and his associates.
