"We need to clarify who attacked whom. There was a verbal argument, and there is footage in which Gakharia hits Dmitri Samkharaidze in the face with a glass. Was Dmitri Samkharaidze's reaction a response, or was it not? If it was a response, how is that considered an attack? We need to clarify this," said Mamuka Mdinaradze, Executive Secretary of the Georgian Dream party and leader of the parliamentary majority, regarding the confrontation that occurred at the Sheraton in Batumi.
Mdinaradze stated that Gakharia was the first to carry out a physical attack on a public official, which is "a very serious offense."
He also noted that it is up to the investigation to determine whether there was a political motive behind these actions.
"Gakharia should think about whether there was an attempt to attack a public official, which is a very serious offense, but this is just my assumption. He attacked Dito Samkharaidze. The first act of physical violence came from him. Now, the only thing to investigate is whether there was a political motive behind this. If that was the case, it is a very serious offense, and if I am not mistaken, it's an attempt to commit article 325. Dito Samkharaidze himself will answer to the investigation. Was it a response? Yes, of course, it was, but this requires clarification of formal matters. Don't start attacking, because everyone will answer, that's natural, including in defense. You won't let yourself be humiliated, right? Someone attacks you, and you need to defend yourself, right? If someone hits you in the face with a glass, you should stop and say, 'What are you doing, sir?!' They attack you, and you must respond. We need to distinguish between an attack and a response, and give everything its proper name," Mdinaradze concluded.
He also added, "It is easy to play the victim once you’ve been attacked."
