This visit does not serve to recognize the illegitimate government, - Tina Bokuchava, Chairwoman of the Unity - National Movement, told journalists after a meeting with a delegation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.
According to Bokuchava, the goal of the delegation's visit is to collect evidence of human rights violations in Georgia, and for this purpose, they will also meet with detainees.
"The Co-rapporteurs of the Council of Europe stated even before arriving in Georgia that their visit did not serve to legitimize the de facto government because Ivanishvili's propaganda machine uses the visit of any international organization to Georgia or for its purposes. In order to neutralize this propaganda, the delegation made a statement before arriving in Georgia that this visit did not serve to recognize the illegitimate government. On the contrary, the delegation is here to collect evidence of human rights violations, which we see daily from Ivanishvili's Russian regime. To this end, they intend to meet with detainees, those people who were and are the targets of government repression, torture and inhuman treatment. As for the issue of recognizing the authority of the delegation of the illegitimate government, you know that we have written on this issue, including to the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. We believe that it would be precisely the continuation and strengthening of the policy of non-recognition that the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe does not recognize the authority of the illegitimate government. A resolution of this content was adopted by the European People's Party in Brussels, which is the largest and most influential political family not only in the European Parliament, but also in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. I am sure that other political groups will also be guided by this standard of non-recognition policy," Bokuchava said.
