Levan Makhashvili: There are forces in the world trying to change Georgia’s policy by pressuring high-ranking officials – The efforts of certain UK MPs point to this

"There are forces in the world attempting to change Georgia's policy through pressure and influence on various high-ranking officials – the efforts of certain Members of the UK Parliament clearly indicate this," stated Levan Makhashvili, Chair of the European Integration Committee in Parliament.

Commenting on the proposal in the UK House of Commons regarding sanctions against Bidzina Ivanishvili, Makhashvili noted that there is no leverage or pressure mechanism that could change Ivanishvili’s position or "push Georgia into war and instability, either by force or other means."

Makhashvili expressed skepticism that the UK would substantiate its position with specific evidence.

"He has made it very clear. We are also confident that Bidzina Ivanishvili has been, is, and will remain one of the guarantors of peace in Georgia. However, such attempts will continue. Today it may be the UK; tomorrow, it could be another country.

Certain forces, individuals, politicians, and institutions will continue to exert pressure on him to change his position. However, his and our stance is very clear – there is no mechanism that could compel him to change Georgia’s peace policy or push the country into any form of escalation or tension.

In previous cases regarding sanctions, there was not a single instance where sanctions were backed by concrete evidence. The current situation is no different.

Unfortunately, it has been a long time since we had the luxury of expecting someone to back their words with evidence. Sadly, words have lost their meaning, and everything boils down to propaganda and information warfare. These forces are part of this – they aim to impose their policies worldwide using all forms of leverage and pressure, whether through foreign ministers of individual countries or certain institutions.

The current situation is the same – we have no expectation that any evidence will be presented, just as in previous cases," Makhashvili said.
