The Georgian people want only one thing - to hold new elections under democratic conditions, this is the right they are fighting for, - MEP Sergey Lagodinsky stated at the plenary session of the European Parliament.
“We have been talking about disinformation and lies here, and some of these lies have reached this podium. People are talking about some kind of ‘bloody Maidan’ or ‘street violence’. We were on the streets, many of us came to Tbilisi, we were actually doing your job when you were still here. And we walked with those people in the cold nights, hundreds of thousands of people. And they were on the street for their future and for their grandchildren’s future, and they said they wanted a European future.
The dream of the Georgians for a democratic future is in compliance with the European dream. And this is the real dream of Georgia, but the party that calls itself “Georgian Dream” is using the full force of its power to prosecute journalists, attack peaceful demonstrators and members of the opposition, including former Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia, who was brutally attacked just a few days ago.
So, I am asking you: Irakli Kobakhidzev and Mikheil Kavelashvili, how further are you ready to escalate? Your people want only one thing - to hold new elections under democratic conditions. And you must give them this. This is the right they are fighting for, and they do not want to be tortured. We have seen people who have been tortured in Georgia. They have the right to be safe, and if not, then we must work on a “coalition of the willing” that will work on targeted sanctions, including against you,” Lagodinsky said.
