Irakli Kobakhidze: The probability is quite high, but I don’t see anything particularly special in this – we can travel to the European Union with a visa, or we can do so without a visa

The likelihood of this is quite high, but I don’t see anything particularly significant about it – this is a technical issue. We can travel to the European Union with a visa or without one, said Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze to journalists in Abu Dhabi regarding the possible revocation of visa-free travel for diplomatic passport holders.

According to Kobakhidze, it is important for the Georgian Dream party to ensure that no threats arise to the country's and the Georgian people's interests.

"Realistically, the probability of this happening is quite high—that's how I would assess it—but I don't see anything special about it. This is entirely a technical and symbolic matter. What is important for us is maintaining peace in the country and protecting the fundamental interests of our people. Whether someone in public service is required to get a visa or not is a technical issue. We can travel to the European Union with a visa or visa-free. This has no substantive significance. What truly matters is that we continue to preserve peace in our country and safeguard the essential interests of our people," said Kobakhidze.

Kobakhidze also described discussions about the possible revocation of visa-free travel for holders of diplomatic passports as a continuation of "unfortunate developments."

"This is a continuation of unfortunate events. It’s about constant attempts to blackmail our country. This blackmail hasn’t been effective over the past four years and won’t be effective now either. That is the only thing I can say about this. Such discussions themselves already highlight the challenges that the European Union is facing today. We very much hope that the EU will soon be able to overcome these problems," stated Irakli Kobakhidze.
