Media representatives protested the arrival of Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze at Mikheil Meskhi Stadium. They expressed solidarity with the founder of the "Batumelebi" publication, Mzia Amaglobeli, and protested her detention.
Journalists were holding photos of Mzia Amaglobeli. Shouts of "Freedom for Mzia Amaglobeli" and "Fire to Oligarchy" were heard.
The stadium entrance gate was locked with a padlock. Journalists called Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze and other government officials "cowards" as they were holding a meeting with sports representatives on the stadium grounds.
Journalist Gela Mthivlishvili told "InterPressNews" that the Prime Minister was let into the locomotive stadium, while some media representatives were not allowed in.
"We weren't let in, the security managed to let Kobakhidze in. We knew that Kobakhidze was coming today, we arrived on time, but they got in ahead of us with black 'jeeps' and a security cohort. The gates were locked, and they are surrounded by security and police. We are here because we are waiting for the immediate release of Mzia Amaglobeli from prison. She has been on hunger strike for 18 days. Her health and life are at risk. We demand her immediate release because she is an illegal political prisoner. Freedom for Mzia, freedom for prisoners of conscience. We will fight until all prisoners of conscience are freed," said Gela Mthivlishvili.
Law enforcement officers are mobilized at the location.
