I congratulate Georgia, today Europe has stood up. Today, Europe has shared the demand of the Georgian people – to appoint new parliamentary elections and to free political prisoners," said Salome Samadashvili, one of the leaders of "Strong Georgia," in a video message recorded from Strasbourg.
According to Samadashvili, this is a major victory for the people who have been standing in the streets for months.
She also mentions that the arrival of the "Georgian Dream" delegates in Strasbourg ended in total failure.
"Greetings from Strasbourg, where the voting has just concluded. The Council of Europe supported the demand of the Georgian people – to release political prisoners and appoint new parliamentary elections. The arrival of the Russian delegates of the 'Georgian Dream' here ended in complete failure. For the first time in history, the delegation's accreditation did not happen. The representatives of the 'Russian Dream' did not receive full accreditation. They will only have the right to enter this hall. They have been deprived of the right to work in committees, delegations, to be speakers – in fact, all their rights have been canceled, except for entering this hall. These limited rights were granted to them until April. If by April they do not free political prisoners and do not appoint new parliamentary elections, these limited rights, which were left to ensure that the Council of Europe has leverage over this Russian regime, will also be revoked.
I want to say that this is a major victory for the people who have been standing in the streets for these months. I want to thank all the party representatives who came here with us, the delegation of non-governmental organizations. This is a collective victory. By fighting together like this, we will achieve the liberation of the country from the Russian regime. I congratulate Georgia, today Europe has stood up. Today, Europe has shared the demand of the Georgian people – to appoint new parliamentary elections and to free political prisoners," said Samadashvili.
