Salome Zurabishvili: "The dreaming time for Georgian Dream is over! – The European Council has embraced the people’s demand and turned it Into a kind of ultimatum"

"The dreaming time for Georgian Dream is over! The European Council has embraced the people’s demand and turned it into a kind of ultimatum," said Salome Zurabishvili, the 5th President of Georgia, in response to the resolution adopted by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE). The resolution calls for new elections in Georgia in the coming months, the release of political prisoners, and the continuation of the country’s European integration path.

In a social media post, Zurabishvili dedicated this victory to Mzia Amaglobeli, the founder of Batumelebi, and to all prisoners of conscience.

"I congratulate everyone who contributed to collecting and presenting evidence of violations and crimes. This serious effort has led to a double victory for Georgia: on one hand, Georgia remains a member of the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly, preventing the country from falling into deeper isolation, despite the devious plans of the Georgian Dream.

At the same time, considering the democratic backsliding in the country, the decision is temporary and conditional and serves as a strict political warning to the ruling party: They have three months to meet key demands – to end police violence, release political prisoners, and set a date for parliamentary elections.

The dreaming time for Georgian Dream is over! The European Council has embraced the people’s demand and turned it into a kind of ultimatum!"

"This day and this victory are dedicated to Mzia Amaglobeli and to all prisoners of conscience!" Zurabishvili wrote.
