The reaction of Georgian Dream, which in fact announced it was leaving the Assembly after the expulsion, was comical - the exact same thing Russia did in 2022 - this analogy is very noteworthy in how the Georgian Dream is following in the footsteps of Russia, - one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change, Elene Khoshtaria, stated at the briefing.

According to her, the resolution adopted by the Council of Europe Assembly is a very important support for the Georgian people.

“The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe [in the adopted resolution] directly reflected what people are fighting for, what political prisoners are in prison for. This is a very important support for the Georgian people. The Assembly practically limited all functioning of the Georgian Dream in PACE. They limited all functions and formally left them to fulfill the condition that was requested. This is a significant success and a step forward for the policy of non-recognition, for the isolation of the Georgian Dream, for sanctions, and most importantly, for the release of our political prisoners and the punishment of the perpetrators.

The reaction of the Georgian Dream was very comical, as they in fact announced after the expulsion that they were leaving the Assembly themselves. Russia did exactly the same thing in 2022, when they were expelled from the Council of Europe after Russia’s attack on Ukraine and they staged a performance as if they were leaving the Council of Europe themselves. This analogy is very noteworthy in how the Georgian Dream is following in the footsteps of Russia”, - said Elene Khoshtaria.

According to her, Georgian Dream wanted to isolate Georgia from Europe by confronting the Assembly, but it received the isolation of its own team and group.

For information, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe calls on Georgia to hold new elections in the coming months, release political prisoners and continue its path towards European integration. Out of 134 deputies, 114 voted in favor of the PACE resolution, 13 voted against, and 7 abstained.

After the adoption of the aforementioned resolution, Georgian Dream announced that it was ceasing its work in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

As Tea Tsulukiani explained when announcing the decision, "a number of reservations in the document are unacceptable, as they are unfair and groundless."
