3 years ago, the Georgian Parliament adopted a Resolution on Possible Military Escalation in Ukraine, where the most important thing was a call to prevent war, and which was not supported by the radical opposition - time has proven that the Georgian government’s policy had no alternative, - the Speaker of the Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, writes on Facebook and publishes the text of the resolution.
According to Papuashvili, everyone who criticized this resolution and demanded the sending of volunteers to Ukraine and the imposition of bilateral sanctions on Russia, would potentially be either mourning or killed.
“Exactly 3 years ago, on February 1, 2022, almost a month before the war, the Georgian Parliament adopted a Resolution on Possible Military Escalation in Ukraine.
The main essence of the resolution was to express solidarity with Ukraine, emphasize respect for its sovereignty, and, most importantly, call for the prevention of war.
The radical opposition did not support the resolution, arguing that it was not aggressive enough towards Russia.
Recently, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio assessed the position of such people, who were propagandistically softening and hiding the expected catastrophic consequences of the war, as dishonest.
For Georgian reality, such a position was tantamount to betrayal. From the perspective of three years, everyone who criticized this resolution and held rallies against their own government in the following weeks, demanded the sending of volunteers to Ukraine and the imposition of bilateral sanctions on Russia, would potentially be either mourning or killed.
Time has proven that the Georgian government's policy had no alternative and was dictated by national interests and a correct assessment of geopolitics," Papuashvili writes.
