Salome Zurabishvili: Mzia Amaglobeli’s efforts will remain in the history of the country for a long tim - I want to thank her for demonstrating the resilience and courage of Georgian women

I want to thank her for demonstrating not only to our society, but also abroad, the resilience and courage of Georgian women during this very difficult period, - the 5th President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, said during an interview with Batumelebi regarding the founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, Mzia Amaglobeli.

According to her, Mzia Amaglobeli’s efforts will remain in the history of the country for a long time.

“Unfortunately, I cannot visit Mzia Amaglobeli in prison, but the main purpose of my coming here is that I want to express my deep respect for her and her courage on behalf of the society and you. We all stand in solidarity with her at this difficult moment and we must thank her. They also thank me, but it is not right to thank, because we are all together in this struggle, in different ways, but I want to thank her for showing not only to our society, but also abroad, the resilience and courage of a Georgian woman in this very difficult period. This is what will save us. For this, her name will remain in our history for a very long time,” said Salome Zurabishvili.

According to her, the state has an obligation to conduct all the examinations that are necessary for human life.

“We must all spread the demands in all directions and publicize them, for the international community - in all directions. I am also trying to introduce this issue to all my contacts during this period and involve them in this campaign. There should be an international campaign and the initial stage of this is already visible and it will undoubtedly be strengthened. Here we must demand the measures that are necessary today.

I met with her lawyers 2 days ago and they said that the necessary examinations are not being conducted. The state is obliged to conduct examinations that are necessary for human life. There is no choice here. We must demand that these examinations be conducted, and if necessary, this is the 21st day of the hunger strike and, perhaps, it is necessary to transfer her to the clinic. I cannot say anything about the decision of the person [regarding the start of the hunger strike], and we cannot interfere in this,” Salome Zurabishvili said.

Salome Zurabishvili is meeting with activists and representatives of the civil sector in Batumi. She visited the editorial office of Batumelebi to express solidarity and support for the arrested founder of Batumelebi, Mzia Amaglobeli.
