Public Defender Levan Ioseliani issues a statement regarding "improper treatment and excessive use of force" by the police.
According to the Public Defender’s statement, it is alarming to see the cases of improper treatment and excessive use of force by the police towards citizens, journalists, and politicians, as shown in the video footage circulating on public sources.
"Information has been spread regarding the injured operator of ‘TV Pirveli’ by the police. Additionally, we saw footage on live broadcast of police officers verbally insulting women, including female politicians.
The Public Defender condemns all illegal actions by the police, particularly cases of improper treatment. The Public Defender will take legal action regarding each case.
The Public Defender calls on the Special Investigation Service to immediately investigate each of these cases and hold the responsible individuals criminally accountable. The Public Defender also calls on the General Inspectorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs to conduct an internal review regarding the cases of verbal abuse and unethical treatment by the police officers.
The Public Defender’s representatives will visit all detained citizens, including politicians. Additional information will be provided to the public later.
