Shalva Papuashvili: What we heard yesterday from Brussels politicians, officials, and diplomats, who called the violent demonstration peaceful, was alarming – let them have such peace on their highways

We saw a criminal attempt to block the highway - the task of the police is to prevent crimes from being committed, and that is exactly what they did yesterday - as for individual incidents, I will not go into the content and will not comment on them, there is a special investigative service for this and they can apply to them, - the Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia, Shalva Papuashvili, told journalists.

According to him, yesterday's rally was violent and what was surprising was that Brussels politicians called a violent rally peaceful.

According to Papuashvili, when Brussels bureaucrats call violence peace, this incites violence.

"They said that throwing flares at the police, trying to burn down the parliament, throwing stones, throwing Molotov cocktails was peace. Then I said that if this is peace, they should have such peace in their capitals every day. Shouldn't they?! Now, if for them peace is blocking international highways, may they have such peace on their highways.

A violent protest was announced. It was announced by NGOs funded from abroad and the National Movement that they would gather in the area adjacent to the highways and block the highway. Of course, the law enforcement officers would not allow them to block the highway. When they got there, they saw a police cordon, which warned them not to block the highway. Nevertheless, they tried to break through the cordon and block it.

What we saw, it was an attempt to commit a crime, to block the highway. The task of the police is to prevent the commission of a crime, and that is exactly what the police did yesterday. Accordingly, when there is a violent demonstration, it is necessary to use police force in order to restrain it. As for individual incidents, I will not go into the content and will not comment on them. There is a special investigative service for this, which they can contact, and the special investigative service will deal with it.

As for the political assessment – what we heard yesterday from Brussels politicians, officials, and diplomats, who called the violent demonstration peaceful, was alarming. Well, the fact that they call it peaceful is why this violence occurs later. That's why when violence is called peace and peaceful protest by some Brussels bureaucrats, it incites violence," Papuashvili said.
