Levan Khabeishvili: The regime has gone on the offensive – Our response must also be an offensive: Strikes should happen everywhere, in railways and ports

"The regime has gone on the offensive – they are trying to intimidate people through arrests and beatings. That is why the protest must become even stronger; there must be strikes. Demonstrations and performances alone won’t work against such a harsh regime," said Levan Khabeishvili, Chairman of the Political Council of "Unity - United National Movement."

According to Khabeishvili, "unity is necessary now," and it is time for action.

"The regime behaves this way, constantly trying to keep people under pressure. We can see that their main goal is to turn Georgian citizens into exiles. Right now, they have an organized propaganda campaign, spreading the message that people are being arrested and persecuted—they are on the offensive. That is why society must clearly understand that our response should also be an offensive, targeting what hurts them the most. I understand that nobody wants to be imprisoned, but in return, we have our country, which we must protect. That is why there must be strikes everywhere, for example, in railways and ports. Such actions are necessary to resist the regime. Demonstrations and performances alone won’t work against such a brutal system.

Just because we have electricity at home and colorful televisions does not mean we live in a normal country. The current political reality is nowhere near what existed even during Shevardnadze’s time. They are on the Magnitsky List, they are sanctioned, no one recognizes them, and they are officially designated as torturers who have usurped power. Another thing I want to point out is the absurd discussions happening on television. Certain politicians and groups engage in meaningless debates about the ‘United National Movement’—stop this madness! This is exactly what the oligarch wants, to keep people engaged with propaganda narratives.

They call Mzia Amaglobeli a criminal, they claim that 19-20-year-old kids are trying to overthrow the state, they accuse Dima Bidzinashvili of being a criminal—you are being fed complete nonsense, yet instead of resisting, you stand there justifying yourselves, engaging in party disputes, and comparing different politicians. Have you ever read a book? Have you ever observed how regimes operate? Regimes do not hand over power through elections. That alone is enough reason to change our approach. We need unity. This is not a competition between parties. Calm down and focus on the real issue.

Our fellow citizens are in prison because they love their homeland, and this anger must be directed in the right way."

Khabeishvili’s statement was released by the party's press service.
