According to opposition politician Gigi Ugulava’s lawyer, Irakli Abesadze, Ugulava is being accused of blocking the road; however, he has not committed any administrative offense.
Abesadze stated that this has nothing to do with the law and that the process is political.
"A hearing will be held regarding Gigi Ugulava's alleged administrative offense. On January 17, during the 'Fathers and Sons' march, Rustaveli Avenue was artificially blocked. They plan to fine 593 people without presenting any individual evidence or assessment. This is not justice; this is repression. This repression is necessary to strengthen Ivanishvili's oppressive regime and cover up the crimes committed by the police. We have no expectation of a fair trial. Just as we are involved in a political process, we are participating in this as well," said Abesadze.
Gigi Ugulava’s court hearing is set to take place in a few minutes. He is being accused under Article 174 prima, Part 4 of the Administrative Offenses Code. Specifically, he is alleged to have been present at the protest on Rustaveli Avenue on January 17 and to have artificially blocked the road when there were not enough people to justify doing so.
