We must succeed and force the Georgian Dream to call new elections, because this is the only way out of the acute constitutional and political crisis, - Badri Japaridze, one of the leaders of the coalition Strong Georgia, said at the press conference regarding the resolution adopted by the European Parliament.
According to him, the supporters of the Georgian Dream should come to their senses and put pressure on Ivanishvili, force him to call new elections.
"This is a resolution, the severity of which we have not seen before. This is the result of the undermining activities that the Georgian Dream, Bidzina Ivanishvili, is engaged in against our state. This is the result of the destructive, devastating actions of Ivanishvili and the Georgian Dream. The resolution reflects that the European Parliament calls on all its member states not to recognize the de facto government. It calls it a self-proclaimed government, self-appointed officials, while at the same time calling on the EU member states to use all possible sanctions mechanisms on a bilateral basis and approves the bilateral sanctions adopted by Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia and the Czech Republic.
At the same time, it is about what poses the greatest threat to our country - these are the greatest benefits that the Georgian people have gained at the cost of their labor and blood – closer relations with the EU, free trade regime, visa-free travel. All this has been put under threat by the Georgian Dream. This is precisely what is reflected in the resolution, that if Ivanishvili does not call new elections, there will be no agreement that these elections will be held in a free and fair environment. The European Parliament calls on the member states to consider canceling the great benefits that our people truly cherished and achieved as a result of so much hard work. We must manage to force the Georgian Dream to fulfill the demand set forth in this resolution - to call new elections, because this is the only way out of the acute constitutional and political crisis that the Georgian Dream has brought us into. The new elections, of course, must be held in free and fair conditions. At the same time, everyone should understand, including the supporters of the Georgian Dream who finance the repressive regime of the Georgian Dream and are complicit in the repression that is being carried out against our fellow citizens, that they are also facing sanctions. Therefore, they should come to their senses and create pressure on Ivanishvili to force him to call new elections in the near future, in order to prevent the situation from worsening further and prevent the European Union from considering canceling the benefits for our country that we have been fighting for over the years. This will be the only correct response to the challenges we are facing," Japaridze said.
