There was premeditated and organized violence, which was later justified by 'Georgian Dream' as violence against the President, Georgia’s fifth President, Salome Zurabishvili, said during a briefing, referring to the attack against her at the airport, specifically the throwing of eggs.
Salome Zurabishvili stated that she has filed a complaint regarding the incident and demanded an investigation.
"Everything will be fine, but not everything can be overlooked. Today, I filed a complaint and demanded an investigation, and we will take everything to the end. There was premeditated and organized violence, which was later justified by 'Georgian Dream' as violence against the President. It doesn't matter which president they recognize; this is about the state, and it means that they are not disrespecting me, but the state itself. In this case, I am a symbol that 'Georgian Dream' is fighting against – the Georgian state, Georgian traditions, Georgian manners, which they have long forgotten, and the image of Georgia in the world. While I was welcomed in Munich, the U.S., and Paris, their reaction is nothing but the petty resentment of small men. This resentment will not go anywhere; the public sees very well what is happening and why. I was explaining this abroad – what they call betrayal – that Georgia is much more than this, that Georgia is much greater than this, and they cannot manage Georgia anymore. They no longer know what it means to govern a country. The only thing they do and can do is take repressive measures one after another and throw eggs. How weak must you be to stoop to this when you are in power? But I don’t like calling them a government anymore; they are no longer a government – they are a regime. A regime shows its weakness when it acts this way toward an elderly woman whom they don’t even recognize as president. If this is not a sign of weakness, then I don’t know what is.
My message today is to the public, who is understandably concerned because there are things that no one should ever do, but they are capable of anything. I want to thank the public for their expressed solidarity, as well as our patriotic compatriots abroad, from whom we received great support. This, of course, damages Georgia’s image internationally, not to mention how we can even talk about tourism when there is no security at the airport. Neither two days ago, when this involved Giorgi Gakharia, the former Prime Minister from 'Georgian Dream,' was the police present, nor were they there this morning. It was already known, as it had been spread that it was now my turn, some women were spreading this information, and if I knew, everyone knew, and if there is a police force and security in this country, it means that some measures should have been taken. There were not only me but also foreign tourists there, who watched in astonishment at the brutality present in this country. A state exists when order and security are ensured for everyone, even for those whose political views you may not agree with. We are losing the state day by day, but we stand, and the people stand, and I am with them, even when I am not in the country. No one should think that this will prevent me from traveling where needed and returning because my duty is to be the voice of the people and to encourage them to continue the protest. This will continue to the end – for them and for me," said Salome Zurabishvili.
