The fifth President of Georgia, Salome Zurabishvili, congratulates Friedrich Merz and his party on their victory in the German parliamentary elections.

Salome Zurabishvili writes on X that she expects support for Georgia’s European future.

"I congratulate Friedrich Merz and the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) on their victory in the parliamentary elections! I wish you success in advancing Germany. I eagerly await your support at this crucial time for Georgia’s European future and for new, free, and fair elections," Zurabishvili writes.

According to exit polls, in Germany’s snap parliamentary elections, Friedrich Merz’s conservative bloc – the Christian Democratic Union/Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU) – is in the lead. The far-right party Alternative for Germany (AfD) is in second place, while Olaf Scholz’s Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) is in third.
