It is unfortunate and very difficult what has happened in Ukraine, but it is clear that all of this must come to an end, - said Kakha Kaladze, the Secretary General of the Georgian Dream party, in response to the resolution initiated by the United States at the UN, which calls for the rapid end of the war in Ukraine.
He stated that the President of the United States is doing everything possible to reach an agreement.
"Peace has no alternative. It would have been great to have avoided this war, which, of course, was possible. We are in politics and we are elected by the people to prevent dangers to the country. It is unfortunate and very difficult what has happened in Ukraine, but it is clear that all of this must come to an end. The President of the United States is doing everything to reach an agreement, and of course, we supported this resolution," said Kaladze.
When asked by a journalist what Ukraine could have done or not done, Kaladze emphasized that "politicians are in politics to do everything possible to avoid dangers to the country and to act in the interests of the country and people."
"Why are we politicians in politics? – Of course, there are challenges. Imagine if the Georgian Dream were not in power and there were representatives of any other agency, we would have the same catastrophic situation in Georgia that, unfortunately, is happening in Ukraine today. Therefore, when you act in the interests of your country and people, especially when we have already experienced it, we lived through the war in 2008, and we all remember how much misfortune the country suffered. Today, we still cannot heal those wounds. Therefore, we are in politics to do everything to prevent dangers to the country and to act, first of all, in the interests of the country and the people. Of course, no one should be allowed to advance their interests at the cost of our country's death and suffering," Kaladze said.
According to The Wall Street Journal, the UN Security Council may vote on a draft resolution by the United States on Monday, the third anniversary of Russia's war against Ukraine, which calls for the rapid end of the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The resolution, consisting of three points, demands "the rapid end of the conflict" and mourns "the tragic loss of life in the Russia-Ukraine conflict." The resolution, however, does not specify who started the war and does not include specific demands towards the Kremlin.
"The resolution has one co-sponsor – the Georgian government, whose ties with Moscow have recently warmed," The Wall Street Journal reports.
