Salome Zurabishvili: There is only one plan with no alternative – new elections - There is no other peaceful solution

Everyone is asking what the plan is. The plan is singular and has no alternative—new elections. There is no other solution, no peaceful way out except elections," Georgia’s fifth president, Salome Zurabishvili, said in her speech at the ongoing rally on Rustaveli Avenue.

According to Zurabishvili, in the coming days, a document will be presented to the public outlining the conditions that should be met for the elections.

"I am convinced that there are no people in Georgia who sincerely want the country to be handed over to Russia. Perhaps they justify things in their own minds, but I do not believe that Georgians, seeing what the Russian regime is like, truly think Georgia would be better off under a Russian boot.

On the other hand, I believe in you, and I believe we are on the right path. And what is that right path? Everyone is asking what the plan is. The plan is singular and has no alternative—new elections. You have probably noticed that more and more of our foreign partners are calling for new elections because the whole world understands that when a country faces such a deep crisis—where, on one side, there is a regime that refuses to give up anything, and on the other side, there is a society that will not give up because it has nothing left to compromise on—this is a deep crisis. After four months, it is clear: there is no other way, no peaceful way, except elections.

Elections mean that when a crisis arises, you turn to the people and ask: What do you want? What is your will? The will of the Georgian people is freedom, independence, and a European future. These elections will take place—there is no doubt about that. So, what should the plan be? Preparing for elections. And that preparation involves several key points. First, we must establish fair election conditions. We are practically ready for this, and in the coming days, you will see a document outlining the necessary conditions for the elections. Second, we must prepare for the elections themselves, which means that today—if not yesterday—we must train commission members and observers. We must assemble an entire army to ensure that no one can rig the elections again. This is in our hands, it is our responsibility, and we must start now. Third, and we are already working on this, we must secure every possible form of support from our most trusted partners to prevent the fraudulent methods used before from being repeated. This includes electronic voting and many other aspects. Our partners are now actively engaged in election-related issues because they have realized that election manipulation and fraud have become Russia’s new strategy—one that began in Georgia and, if not stopped now, will spread to other European countries tomorrow. That is why everyone must study what has happened here, and together, we must find ways to defeat this fraud once and for all. This is something we must do together.

What else needs to be done? I am personally involved in ensuring better coordination among all parties. On one hand, there are political parties, on the other, new political movements, as well as the organizations standing with you on the streets today.

I do not know how many political parties will participate in the upcoming elections, and I wish them all success—all pro-European parties together. But one thing I do know: the program can only be one—the Georgian Charter. It must state that all Russian laws will be repealed, that all political prisoners will be released, that we will restore an independent judiciary, that we will fight corruption, and that everything necessary will be done within the first six months after the elections," said Salome Zurabishvili.
