Nika Gvaramia: We must move to a political offensive

"We must now transition to a political offensive – we must seize the elections from Bidzina Ivanishvili, but under fair conditions," said the leader of the Coalition for Change, Nika Gvaramia, speaking to journalists after a meeting between opposition leaders and MEP Rasa Juknevičienė.

According to Gvaramia, people protesting in the streets is a necessary but insufficient condition for change. He emphasized the need to continue working everywhere—in the streets, in the regions, and in the capital—to maintain the policy of non-recognition, which he called "essential and decisive."

"The situation in Georgia is very difficult. The main reason for this difficulty is Bidzina Ivanishvili and his regime, which has seized power. I remain optimistic as long as I see a clear direction for the fight and know what must be done against the regime. I, along with all politicians and all of you, will do whatever it takes to bring about regime change.

They won’t have enough time to implement laws that shut down all NGOs, close all TV stations, and destroy all political parties. Time is no longer on Bidzina Ivanishvili’s side. This is why we must now move to a political offensive. While people in the streets are a necessary precondition for change, it is not enough. We must work everywhere—in the streets, in the regions, in the capital—to sustain the policy of non-recognition, which is essential and decisive.

We must seize the elections from Bidzina Ivanishvili, but under fair conditions. What he is doing is clear to me—I know exactly where this is heading. He is accumulating political prisoners and passing bad laws, only to later say, ‘I will release the prisoners, repeal the laws, and the opposition can return to parliament and participate in the elections.’

There will be no 'Charles Michel 2,'" Gvaramia stated.
