Irakli Kobakhidze on the June 20 case: It is necessary to investigate why Giorgi Gakharia acted in a manner that caused severe consequences - a softer response could have been made to the anti-state assault

I have repeatedly spoken on this topic, why water cannon and gas were not used when a softer response could have been used to respond to that anti-state assault, - this is how Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze responded to the complaint filed by citizens affected during the anti-occupation rally on June 20-21, 2019 with the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights, where an oral hearing on this issue will be held on February 26.

According to Irakli Kobakhidze, it is interesting why the then Minister of Internal Affairs, Giorgi Gakharia, acted “in the forms he did.”

"We also had questions regarding this special operation, we have spoken on this topic many times, why water cannons and gas were not used when a softer response could have been made to the anti-state assault carried out by the radical opposition on the parliament building. It is interesting, it is necessary to investigate why the head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs acted in those ways, in whatever way he acted, which led to serious consequences for specific people, this was a very sad event, questions must be asked and all this needs to be investigated," said Irakli Kobakhidze.

For information, the Grand Chamber of the European Court of Human Rights will consider the complaints of citizens affected during the anti-occupation rally on June 20-21, 2019, in an oral hearing on February 26.
