Three years after the start of the war, instead of recognizing the far-sighted and reasonable policy of the Georgian government, or at least remaining silent, against the backdrop of the difficult US-Ukrainian meeting in the White House, our society has once again witnessed the light-mindedness of the radical opposition, foreign-funded NGOs, and the ex-president of Georgia, - this is how the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili responds to the meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and US President Donald Trump.
As Papuashvili writes on social media, “Three years after the war, European leaders have no plan for how they intend to defeat Russia with the drip of aid of Ukraine. What resources, time, and lives will it take to win the war? - This question remains unanswered.”
“On February 24, 2022, the war began not only in Ukraine, but in the entire region, at least. The context of this war also applies to us. Our government, which allowed for the possibility of the outbreak of war, assumed its possible development and its impact on Georgia, came to the only correct and firm decision - Georgia should not become a participant in the ongoing hot or hybrid war in any aspect, and we must maintain peace at all costs.
At the same time, Georgia condemned Russian aggression, condemned the war, called for peace and a ceasefire, supported Ukraine, received refugees, sent humanitarian aid, the Georgian embassy was the last diplomatic mission left in Kyiv…
We did not impose sanctions (however, we did not give anyone the opportunity to bypass international sanctions), did not send volunteer fighters to the front, did not increase the escalation and did not intensify the rhetoric…. Rhetoric, as we saw yesterday at the White House, was very important.
Three years after the war, European leaders do not have a plan for how they intend to defeat Russia with the drip of aid to Ukraine. What resources, time and lives will it take to win the war? This question is unanswered. We only understand that aid must continue.
The key player in this war is the United States. The new administration received the people's mandate with a firm promise to end the war. It is better for this war to end with the participation of America, which will protect Ukraine, than without it. If the US withdraws from the process, Europe and Ukraine will be left alone in the face of Russia.
Such is world politics. Such things have happened before and will happen many times more. Countries have their own interests and act accordingly, calculate and organize accordingly.
All experts in international relations know this, responsible leaders of the country know this, educated people know this, those who did not know saw it clearly. Everyone understood, except for whom? - The Georgian opposition spectrum.
Three years after the start of the war, instead of recognizing the far-sighted and reasonable policy of the Georgian government, or at least remaining silent, against the backdrop of the difficult US-Ukraine meeting in the White House, our society once again witnessed the light-mindedness of the radical opposition, foreign-funded NGOs, and the ex-president of Georgia.”, Papuashvili said.
