Giorgi Bachiashvili was one of Bidzina Ivanishvili's closest partners and managed his finances. He knows a lot and will probably reveal more that may not be liked by "Georgian Dream" and probably not by Bidzina Ivanishvili either," said one of the leaders of the "United National Movement," Gigi Tsereeteli, in an interview on the PalitraNews program "Free Studio."
According to Tsereeteli, Bachiashvili exploited a weak point when crossing the border, and there are many such weak points in the country.
He assessed that this issue not only applies to this specific case but is present in many places because people in the state service have strong internal protests.
“Giorgi Bachiashvili was one of Bidzina Ivanishvili's closest partners and managed his finances. He knows a lot and will probably reveal more that may not be liked by "Georgian Dream" and probably not by Bidzina Ivanishvili. It seems that his arrest was already decided, and the events of yesterday and today, when he was announced to be imprisoned three times, confirmed this. Bachiashvili outsmarted them and effectively chose the path he took.
When such a situation exists in the country, when corruption has infiltrated many places, I don’t want to blame only corruption, but it’s also about the mood — people have some internal protest, and I don’t know who helped him or if anyone helped him at all. Helping is not even necessary; the fact is that there is a weak link. Personally, I wasn't disappointed that he wasn't arrested at the border, on the contrary. He chose freedom over prison, especially because of this specific incident. But the fact remains, and he himself said that he used the weak point that exists, and there are many such weak points, because people, including those still in state service, have a great deal of internal protest, which is why this issue appears in many places, not just in this one,” Gigi Tsereeteli noted.
Additionally, the opposition politician spoke about the local government elections and stated that, in his opinion, every party should participate in elections and test themselves. However, according to Tsereeteli, under the conditions in which "Georgian Dream" is holding elections, it would be like entering a lost game.
"We want to participate in the elections, in my opinion, every party wants to test itself — elections are the main arena for political parties. But this requires conditions; it requires at least an equal playing field, it requires that the government doesn't have such a harsh repressive machine in operation, not use such resources, and not invent all kinds of tricks and methods for manipulation, not intimidate people. Therefore, if these conditions don't exist, and everything is supposed to continue dominantly under the government's conditions, then no one should want to enter a lost game. So, currently, unless something changes, I don't think anyone will want to, despite the political instinct telling them not to fall behind the process because it harms all political parties.
I think it would be much more correct to discuss that, if the time for these elections comes, two elections could be held together. If the government wants the process to develop constructively in the country, it should do so, but this is only our wish. Under this government, it won’t happen because these people have one goal: to create comfort, extend their term in power, and think about what will please Ivanishvili, and so on," said Gigi Tsereeteli.
