Teona Akubardia: Ivanishvili’s focus on local elections serve to remove new parliamentary elections from the agenda – we are preparing for new parliamentary elections

Ivanishvili’s regime started talking about the October local elections in order to remove the issue of parliamentary elections from the agenda - of course, preparations for the elections are underway and these are new parliamentary elections, which are a demand of the 100 days of continuous protests, - Teona Akubardia, a member of Gakharia for Georgia, told journalists.

According to her, Georgian Dream says that the opposition is afraid of elections, but first of all, this is their own challenge.

Ivanishvili’s regime started talking about the October local elections in order to remove the issue of parliamentary elections from the agenda, which has not gone anywhere and the 100-day protest and demand are still valid. There are 7 months left until the October elections and this is a long time. Therefore, when the main agenda is parliamentary elections, naturally, preparations are underway for parliamentary elections in our country. Ivanishvili’s regime says that someone is afraid of elections, but first of all, fair and free elections is their own challenge. This is evidenced by both the elections of October 26, 2024, as well as the changes to the Election Code, which demonstrate the challenge of Ivanishvili’s regime itself. Accordingly, of course, preparations are underway for elections, and these are new parliamentary elections, which are a demand of 100 days of continuous protest.

I can say unequivocally and decisively that we are preparing for new parliamentary elections, which Ivanishvili’s regime will have to schedule. Everything else and their focus on local elections serve to remove new parliamentary elections from the agenda,” Akubardia said.
