The trial of Mikheil Saakashvili and Teimuraz Janashia on charges of embezzling a large amount of budgetary funds as a group is underway

The final hearing in the criminal case against former President Mikheil Saakashvili and former head of the Special State Protection Service, Teimuraz Janashia, who are accused of embezzling a large amount of budgetary funds as a group, is underway at the Tbilisi City Court.

At today's court session, the defendants will deliver their closing statements before Judge Badri Kochlamazashvili.

Before the hearing began, the judge announced that he would take a few days to deliver the final verdict.

Mikheil Saakashvili is attending the trial remotely from the "Vivamedi" clinic.

For reference, this case, commonly known as the "Coats Case" among the public, involves both Mikheil Saakashvili and Teimuraz Janashia. The prosecution accuses the defendants of embezzling a large amount of budgetary funds—9 million GEL.
