Shalva Papuashvili: We have already seen Ukraine, which trusted some people! They were laying out the red carpet for Zelensky, standing up for him, and now you can see that today, sitting at the negotiation table seems to be a beggar’s position

Georgia is where we have been for at least the last 3,000 years, and tectonic geopolitical shifts around Georgia have always been happening. We have already seen Ukraine, which trusted some people! Ukraine was offered support, but we saw how that support worked in 1994 when Ukraine was forced to give up its nuclear weapons! Or where is the support given in February 2022?! – This statement was made to the media by the Speaker of Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili.

Papuashvili also says that if they had trusted others, Georgia today would be a mourning, destroyed country like Ukraine.

"We've been in these conditions for 3,000 years. Our genetic memory should teach us some things, if not our own experience over the last few decades.

It should teach us that the first thing we should trust is ourselves and our own people. We saw Ukraine, which trusted some people, and we saw what is happening in Ukraine now. We see that the Ukrainian government doesn't even have a choice and can't say what is an acceptable option for them. This is what happens when the government of an independent state trusts others – this is always the end result!

This is our neighborhood, this is our region, and we've been like this for centuries, facing these difficulties. The only thing that has kept us going for centuries and millennia is thinking about our national interests, not following someone else!

An independent country should focus on its own national interests, not on having someone’s support!

We are not a global player, a country with great opportunities to influence world politics. We learned the lesson that we should not climb the ladder! – We knew very well the path that led to red carpets and how we should be applauded at international forums! They laid out such red carpets for Zelensky, stood up for him, and now you see that today, sitting at the negotiation table is what suits him." – said Shalva Papuashvili.

Michał Kobosko - we hope that your government eventually would either choose the European way, the democratic way or would resign seeing the number, the size and scale of the citizens' protests
