At the Tbilisi City Court, the announcement of the verdict in the case of former President Mikheil Saakashvili and the former head of the Special State Protection Service, Teimuraz Janashia, who were accused of the large-scale embezzlement of budgetary funds as a group, was met with chants from Saakashvili’s supporters. They called Judge Badri Kochlamazashvili "Bidzina's slave." Zviad Kuprava was expelled from the courtroom.
The Tbilisi City Court sentenced Georgia’s third president, Mikheil Saakashvili, to 9 years in prison for embezzling budgetary funds, while former SSPS head Teimuraz Janashia was fined 300,000 GEL.
The verdict in this case was announced by Judge Badri Kochlamazashvili.
The prosecution accused Saakashvili and Janashia of embezzling a large amount of budgetary funds—9 million GEL—in a group scheme.
Neither of the defendants, Mikheil Saakashvili and Teimuraz Janashia, appeared at the hearing. According to the judge, the penitentiary service submitted a report stating that Saakashvili refused to join the session remotely and requested a postponement until he recovered.
